About Us

We work by hand and by ear. Bending the ribs, building the bowl and neck, carving the rose, setting up and stringing, step by step, listening. It is exacting, patient work, and that is where the difference lies.

We are a small workshop building and restoring lutes and early instruments by hand. To an instrument is more than ribs and strings: built, set up and voiced by hand, it speaks evenly and, cared for, it lasts for generations. That is what our work is about.

We set each instrument up to speak. The build, the set-up and the stringing all matter. We build, set up and advise on what suits the instrument and the player, honestly and without fuss.
